TONY WALSH

Membre à vie de Matross  - Lifetime Member of Matross

      De descendance irlandaise, Tony a servi dans les forces canadiennes de 1962 à 1978. Il a été membre du Black Watch (RHR) à Montréal, par la suite joint l’Armée  régulière au 1^er Régiment RCHA, il retourne au 1^st Bon BW Gagetown, membre du corps de cornemuse et participera au Tatoo des FC de 1967. Il prend son cours de technicien en armement devient membre du GEMRC.  Il servira à Montréal, le  LdSH(RC) en Allemagne, et à la section d’armement de la base d’Ottawa.  D’août 75 à février 76 il fait partie de la rotation canadienne de l’ONU à Ismailia en Égypte au sein de la FUNU II. A son retour, il sera promu caporal-chef et servira notamment au Centre d'essais techniques (Terre).

      À son retour à la vie civile en 1978, il prend le cours de maréchal-ferrant au Collège Algonquin et en 1980 obtient sa licence de machiniste de l’Ontario, Il est propriétaire-opérateur d’un moulin à scie à Lanark. Un artisan hors du commun, d’une générosité sans pareil pour la transmission technique du savoir et la passion de son art. Derrière il y a de la rigueur, de la passion, de l'amour du travail bien fait, de la discipline.

      Lorsqu’on rencontre  Tony, on n’a pas à se poser de questions, on a un désir incommensurable d’apprendre et d’apprécier l’interprétation historique de ses connaissances par la  bonification de sa créativité.

      Malheureusement le colonel commandant, le bgén (retraité) Dave Patterson était à l’extérieure du Canada au moment de la présentation.

 

 

      Of Irish descent, Tony served in the Canadian Forces from 1962 to 1978. He was a member of the Black Watch (RHR) in Montreal, then joined the Regular Army with the 1^st Regiment RCHA, he returned to 1^st Bon BW Gagetown, member of the pipe band and participated in the 1967 CF Tatoo. He took his weapons technician course and became a member of the RCEME. He will serve in Montreal, the LdSH(RC) in Germany, and in the weapons section of the base in Ottawa. From August 75 to February 76 he was part of the Canadian rotation of the UN in Ismailia in Egypt within the UNEF II. On his return, he will be promoted to master corporal and will serve in particular at the Technical Test Center (Land).

      On his return to civilian life in 1978, he took the farrier course at Algonquin College and in 1980 obtained his Ontario machinist's license. He owned and operated a sawmill in Lanark. An extraordinary craftsman, with unparalleled generosity for the technical transmission of knowledge and the passion for his art. Behind it there is rigour, passion, love of a job well done, discipline. 

       When you meet Tony, you don't have to ask questions, you have an immeasurable desire to learn and appreciate the historical interpretation of his knowledge by enhancing his creativity.

      Unfortunately the Colonel Commandant, BGen (Retired) Dave Patterson was outside of Canada at the time of the presentation
